"Culture Throb"
By Mazedude
Mzd-Call = Prank Call
Well, I was invited to participate in GC23, so I went and
downloaded the samplepack. Chips?! I don't normally endorse
chip tunes, but thought it would be good practice if I made
one... So I did. After listening to the samples and stuff I
decided to do something impressionistic of a phone call, and
the silly nature of what I came up with led to "Prank Call".
However, it only makes sense if you read the info page, so I
didn't do so well in the compo...
Mzd-Hunt = Spook Hunt
Maim and Alcide, two friends from #Trax, invited everyone to
join in their brand new compo. Knowing how hard it can be to
get new things like that started, I joined in to help. The
topic was Halloween. After listening to some stuff by Danny
Elfman, and some tunes from Killer Instinct, I constructed
this in a day. I won.
Mzd-Nile = Nile
Groovy Compo 22 had begun, and I decided to check it out. Boy,
the samplepack wasn't too great. All weird sound effects, drums,
and just a few decent melodic samples... This led me to think
how few other people would attempt to write stuff with this. On
that notion, I began. After listening to the samples, I came up
with what was clearly what the compilers were hoping for: an
African tune. I got 2nd place.
Mzd-Red = Red Lobster Cruise
My MC6 tune. One day in May I was with my family in Red Lobster,
and after listening intently to the background music I thought
"I want to write something like that". It was cool and Caribbean,
and once I got started I decided I was going to make it my MC6
tune. Unfortunately, I just barely missed the top twenty in
Intermediate, so I hit Block 2 and didn't make it to the second
round. A bit ricky I guess... Ah well. Still a good tune.
Mzd-Robo = Robot Rock
While in #Trax one day, I was invited to participate in a compo.
I said sure... It wouldn't hurt to atleast check out another compo.
I was given a samplepack and a deadline. The samples weren't really
all that great, but the option to add three of your own was a
pleasant one. I put together a cool groove, and from there tracked
a semi-decent tune. Atleast compo-worthy... Well, the compo was
delayed and delayed, and unless it's 1999 by the time you read this
I still don't know how I placed. But, here it is.
